Join us in the Eastern Sierra in Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, California!

Want to learn how to safely set up top-rope anchors outdoors?

Looking to be more self-sufficient in climbing outside?

This course is for you!

In this one day class, your female guide will talk about anchor building and risk management in an outdoor setting.

You’ll work together to learn how to build multiple types of top rope anchors, including how to use fixed bolts and natural features.

Additionally, you’ll learn how to clean your anchors at the end of a climbing session and how to rappel from multiple types of anchor configurations. On top of that, you’ll have some fun climbing in a beautiful area!

Making the drive to Alabama Hills and want to get in more guided climbing plus have a safe space to rest your head at night?

Book the full weekend option and have a campground space for Friday and Saturday nights, the Anchor & Rappel clinic for Saturday, sport climbing tutorial plus a recreational group climb on Sunday to practice your skills.

The entire weekend is guided by a female certified guide. All of our rock climbing courses are taught by American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch Instructors or higher certifications.

Anchor Building & Rappelling Clinic

Full Weekend Itinerary

  • Friday

    Only if booking the entire weekend option.

    Meet at Tuttle Creek Campground any time after 4PM.

    We’ll have signs up so that you can find us!

    Set up your tent, BYO dinner, and get to know your fellow climbers!

  • Saturday - Clinic Day

    Breakfast with the group. (Optional for One Day Clinic attendees.)

    Head to the climbing site!

    First things first, we’ll discuss all of our gear, go over critical safety rules, and then we’ll start walking around to different types of anchor locations and discuss the various ways of building top rope anchors.

    Your instructors will demo each method, and then time to practice!

    In the middle of the day, we’ll do a few fun climbs, and then discuss cleaning anchors after the climbs.

    We’ll work on topping out, rappelling, and lowering off anchors.

    Event concludes around 4:30PM and One Day Clinic attendees depart.

    For full weekend attendees:

    In the late afternoon, we’ll head back to camp to relax and enjoy a BYO dinner.

  • Sunday - Group Climb

    Only if booking the entire weekend event.

    Time for a fun day of climbing! If you’ve just completed our Saturday clinic, now is your chance to set up top rope anchors for the entire group! Then, enjoy your newfound skills by climbing a variety of fun routes in a spectacular setting.

    We’ll enjoy a full day of climbing before we say our goodbyes in the afternoon.

Activity, Fitness & Skills

  • Climbing: beginner to intermediate.

  • Climbing spots are quickly accessible from your car so minimal hiking will take place. There will be plenty of breaks during instruction segments.

  • You should have the climbing basics down (safely belaying, lowering, tying in, and comfort climbing up to 5.7) and be ready to push yourself to the next level of knowledge building.

What to expect after you book your reservation

After you book your reservation, you will receive a confirmation email. Over the following weeks as you start to get closer to your event date, you will receive additional emails confirming packing lists, itinerary details and other important or helpful supplemental information such as start time and driving directions. The week of the event, you should be ready to go and you will receive a final email introducing your guides, providing you with their contact information and other last minute notes.

Your event does require a certain minimum number of participants to run. Don’t worry though, our group size is naturally quite small to keep it special and relaxing experience so the minimum booking requirement is also lower than other guide services.

The nearest airport to Lone Pine is Bishop (BIH).

If you are flying in for this trip, please contact us before booking airfare to make sure that your trip is confirmed. We require a minimum number of participants to operate.

General weather expectations

Eastern Sierra desert daytime temperatures can range between 60 to 75 degrees F, with overnight lows dropping to the 40s or 50s. You may encounter even colder temperatures overnight. This event will be rescheduled if it rains or snows in the area that we are climbing.

Travel Insurance

We highly recommend travel insurance to protect your trip in the event unforeseeable circumstances or illness comes up that interferes with your ability to join the trip.
